Moore and Vermes Inducted Into US Soccer Hall of Fame

The induction of 2 more pioneer players of  MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER have been selected to the United States Hall of Fame. Although the American Hall no longer exists in a building form, the ceremonial induction takes place in conjunction with other soccer events.

JOE-MAX MOORE

Caps: 100  Goals: 24
Clubs: Saarbrucken (Germany), FC Nurnberg (Germany), New England Revolution (USA), Everton (England)

The son of a former owner of the NASL's Tulsa Roughnecks, Joe-Max Moore was destined to be part of the American soccer scene from childhood. By the time he was old enough for professional football, there wasn't the caliber in place for his talents. Moore moved to Europe and endured the struggles of an American making it in German football.

He did surprising well, and when the MLS was assigning designated stars to the inaugural franchises, Moore landed with New England.  He stayed long enough to score at a rate of better than a goal every 2 games.

He moved to Everton in the Premier League and made over 50 appearances. He finished out his career with a return to New England for one last season. He was art of 3 US World Cup Teams (1994-2002)

PETER VERMES

Caps: 67 Goals: 11
Clubs: New Jersey Eagles (USA), Raba Eto (Hungary), Volendam (Holland), Tampa Bay Rowdies (USA), Figueres (Spain), New York Fever (USA), New York MetroStars (USA), Colorado Rapids (USA), Kansas City (USA)

Having to earn his living as a traveler for the early part of his career made Peter Vermes ripe for football management. A very capable striker who became a utility player based on his determination and diversity.

A key player for the USA at the 1990 and 1994 World Cup, Vermes was a Captain in Colorado's(1997) and Kansas City's(2000) MLS Cup runs playing as a defender. The latter resulting in the MLS Championship victory.

It seems the next generation of inductees may just include players who only have played in MLS. The importance of these traveling pioneers cannot be measured in mere statistics, but rather the compliments of their peers.

Both these players are honored by the INTERNATIONAL SOCCER ARCHIVES with their jerseys.

ISA Collection adds Record Setting Kevin Hartman jersey

The person who was quoted for "nice guys finish last" never met Kevin Hartman. Aside from all his on-field accomplishements, Kevin is one of the quiet people ready to give the shirt off his back. He did exactly that, donating this 2010 game used MLS goal keeper jersey (below) to the I.S.A. Collection.
His is often involved in community work and international causes. We met him during the off-season working on NOTHINGBUTNETS - raising awareness for the need of mosquito netting to prevent malaria.

The yellow number # 1 shirt was worn during the 2010 MLS season including the record 19 game undefeated run with FC Dallas. The season was also high lighted by the incident with Frenchman Thierry Henry that caused Hartman to miss several games near the end of the regular schedule.
He recovered enough to lead FC Dallas through the playoffs and the MLS CUP Final, although he was unable to take goal kicks from the injury.
Hartman holds most of Major League Soccer's goal keeping records including:
- Most saves in MLS history.
- Most career shutouts in MLS history.
- Most wins by any goalkeeper in MLS history.
- Most consecutive minutes in MLS history.
- First MLS goalkeeper to have consecutive 20-win seasons.

Kevin has been capped (4) four times by the US National Team. He was voted MLS goalkeeper of the year in 1999.

I.S.A. Adds Seattle Sounders Record Open Cup Artifacts

The Record Setting Final of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup between the Columbus Crew and Seattle Sounders will be chronicled at the International Soccer Archives. The Seattle Sounders, who won their second consecutive Cup title, drew 31,311 fans and broke the previous mark set in 1929.
The Sounders also became the first professional club to win back-to-back Open Cups since the 1930 - 1931 Fall River Marksmen of the American Soccer League. Seattle Sounders sent a match ticket (above) and the game jersey of Captain Kasey Keller (below).

Keller, who is no stranger to Cup Finals, played in two Finals with Leicester City in 1997 and 1999 and was in the squad of Tottenham Hostspurs in 2002.
Among the ephemera are the original line-up sheets and media packets. These items will go into the collection next to the 1930 U.S. Open Cup medal exhibited in the I.S.A. Collection.
Seattle Sounders finished only their second season in Major League Soccer.

Philadelphia - 100 Years of Soccer

On the eve of Philadelphia Union's Major League Soccer debut, the International Soccer Archives has acquired rare memorabilia from the city of Brotherly love. While many European soccer clubs can trace their beginnings back over a century, several American cities have played the sport just as long. Pennsylvania's Eastern mecca of Philadelphia is one such city.
With strong British roots dating to colonial days, Philadelphia was a playground for exiled Britons who imported the sports of horse racing, boxing and soccer to America. Organized soccer leagues formed as early as 1884. One of the nation's most prominant was the Allied American Football Association which spurred the likes of powerhouse club Bethlehem Steel F.C., and was directly affiliated with The Football Association in England.
The Bethlehem Company's footballers were National Champions on several occasions. They would be joined in later years by semi-pro and amateur clubs such as the Philadelphia Ukranians, and professionals like the Philadelphia Atoms, who won the title in their innaugural NASL season.

Cup and tournament play were organized and divisional tables were marked with championship medals and trophies. These recent additions to the I.S.A. collection include these medals and postcards of these early clubs.
The Allied American Football Association was the second oldest organized sports league in America after baseball. They were recognized by FIFA in 1913 and had established the American Cup - the fore runner to the (Lamar Hunt) U.S. Open Cup.

The artifacts that were added to the I.S.A. collection include:

- 1917/18 (Philadelphia) Allied American Football League medal
- 1914/15 (Philadelphia) Allied American Football League medal
- 1910  Philadelphia Cup medal
- 1913/14 West Philadelphia F.C. postcard
